We are proud to announce the recipient of the ILA/ACRL Scholarship to the ILA Annual Conference. Congratulations to Frances Sleger!
About the winner:
Frances Sleger is a graduate student in the School of Library and Information Science and the Center for the Book at the University of Iowa. As a Graduate Assistant in the Maps Collection, they offer reference support, assist maps-based instruction, and provide collections care, with the broad goal of revitalizing the collection. After a decade of various nonprofit experience, including two years of service in AmeriCorps, they are interested in a career in archives or special collections librarianship.
In their words:
“Attending the ILA conference was a great way for me to apply real-world examples to what I’m learning in class. At the conference, I attended breakout sessions on rural library collaboration, censorship & advocacy, book bans & reconsideration policies, and the ethics of artificial intelligence, among others. Over the three days, I met librarians across the state of Iowa who told stories of resilience, and admired the way they responded to challenges in innovative ways. I will no doubt draw inspiration from these stories during the rest of my time in graduate school and beyond.”
