ARTICLE VII

Nominations and Elections

Rationale: To bring the nomination and election process more inline with ILA and ALA practice, we recommend the following bylaws changes. Contingent with the proposal for section 4 would be an addition to our org. manual which notes a time period or date for the report. This is the practice established by the ILA Bylaws and organization manual. Bolded text in Existing versions represents deletions, and underlined text in Proposed versions represents additions.

Section 4. Nominating Committee Report

Existing:
The Nominating Committee will issue a written report of its nominations to the Chapter membership at least 30 days prior to the Annual Business Meeting.

Proposed:
The Nominating Committee will issue a written report of its nominations to the Chapter membership according to subdivision policies and with ample time for nomination by petition.

Section 6. Elections

Existing:
Chapter elections will be held electronically and are in compliance with ILA subdivision policies as outlined in the ILA Organizational Manual. Paper notices will be sent to members without email addresses. Paper ballots must be mailed to voter upon request.

Notice of the elections and instructions for casting ballots will be sent to the Chapter membership one-week following the Annual Business Meeting of the Chapter. The Nominating Committee will have charge of the election and will ensure that the member list is updated. Each ballot message is to state the voting period, the number of responses required for a quorum, the percentage of approvals required for election/passage and information about how the winners’ results will be announced.

For each position, the candidate receiving the largest number of votes will be elected. Thirty-five percent of the membership will constitute a quorum for elections. In the case of a tie vote, the successful candidate will be determined by majority vote of the Executive Board (See Article VI, Section 2, vii). Results will be communicated to the Chapter Executive Board immediately after they have been tabulated and to the membership in the next issue of the Chapter newsletter.

MENTEE FAQ

What It Means to Be a MENTEE

Mentees are expected to:

Get supervisory approval to participate;

Meet your mentor in-person for at least the initial and ending meetings;

Meet with your mentor a minimum of once a month (either in-person or by phone);

Have frank discussions with your mentor about career goals, professional issues, and hopes for mentorship outcomes;

Encourage an onsite library visit with your mentor (this may take the shape of a job-shadowing experience);

Make contacts with academic librarians; and,

Increase your knowledge of and exposure to academic librarianship.
