Committee and Chapter ACRL Representative Reports
- Spring Conference: Cloyd reported the committee is ready to go. Cloyd noted approximately 130 paid attendees. Approximately $6,300 in payments. With estimated cost about $25 / person we may clear between $2500-3000 for the conference. The committee did a wonderful job handling the last minute hitch in plans as the keynote speaker was not able to make a flight into Iowa. Committee members were able to work with personnel from Grinnell and Franklin and Marshall College to bring her address to the conference virtually.
- Directory: Stacy-Bates reported that the directory is updated and on the website. Extra print copies of the directory are to new members of IA-ACRL at the Spring Conference.
- Fall Program: Parsons reported that Julia Gammon (OhioLink) will be one of the ACRL speakers. A list of panel participants has not yet been identified. ILA continues to investigate potential speakers on leadership. Heinzman suggested someone from the Peabody Institute.
- Awards: Stuhr announced that Mary Francis received the award to attend the Spring Conference. During the Business meeting today, Stuhr will announce the two new awards coming out: Public Relations and Marketing; Research
- Membership: As of March 12, 2007 the Iowa Chapter of ACRL has 121 members, including 15 new members. Several recruiting letters were sent to listservs and a reminder in the recent newsletter. The ILA/ACRL website has been updated to reflect the dues increase.
- Electronic Communications: Gjerde reported that the Operational Manual update continues.
- Newsletter: March newsletter is out.
- Nominating: Heinzman reported that volunteer forms are included in the conference folders and are also available on the website.
- Education Ad Hoc Committee: Campagna reported that the survey will close at the end of April.
- ACRL Legislative Network Chapter Representative: No report.
- ACRL Chapters Council Representative: No report.
Other Business
- Ad hoc Committee on Advocacy / Mentoring Subcommittee Report: Donham asked the board to consider if/how to move forward with this report. Heinzman suggested a desire to include mentoring for librarians wanting to ‘move-up’ or rejuvenate a career. (The current survey addresses mentoring for new librarians only.) Campagna indicated a need to look at how mentoring is done. The board opted to table further discussion on this topic for the time being.
- By Laws – response from ILA By-Laws Committee: Donham reported that the ILA By-Laws committee stated the change to the ILA/ACRL by-laws (all ‘shall’s to ‘will’s and adding ‘at least’ before the indicated number of committee members) is inconsequential and therefore a vote by the membership is not required. Donham will announce the changes during the Business meeting at the Spring Conference in Grinnell.
