Draft Minutes

 

I. Welcome: President Brett Cloyd convened the meeting at 12:30pm.

II. Minutes from October 16, 2008: Jean Donham MOVED "Approval," which motion was seconded and CARRIED.

III. Treasurer's Report: The secretary-treasurer reported the following:

  • IV. Guests:
  • a. State Librarian Mary Wegner discussed the budget outlook and other challenges facing the State Library this year.
     
  • b. ILA President Ellen Neuhaus spoke of association activities.

 V. Committee and Chapter ACRL Representative Reports

 a. Awards: Mary Heinzman reported that Myntha Cuffey had been awarded a scholarship to the Spring Program. The $500.00 Public Relations Award will be available for library advocacy this year, and next year the committee will award the Research Grant. Heinzman thanked the committee members.

 b. Directory: Deb Seiffert noted that the association is moving to an online directory, and asked for ideas on how to assemble and use the directory. She thanked members of the committee.

c. Electronic Communications: Ryan Gjerde reported on the association website and the listserv, and thanked his committee members.

d. Fall Program: Amy Paulus reported that Heather Joseph from SPARC and Faye Chadwell would be giving programs on Thursday, and that Fred Gertler would be making a presentation on humor. She thanked her committee members for their work.

 e. Membership: John Goodin reported membership of 140, and thanked his committee members for their work over the next few months.

 f. Mentoring: Erika Raber reported that the committee had matched five mentors with protégées, and that the committee would be taking applications in May for more participants. She thanked her co-chair, Jen Rouse.

g. Newsletter: Judy Mitchell thanked her committee members, noting that they had produced two newsletters thus far, and that the third newsletter would be published following the conference.

h. Nominating: Vice-President Mary Iber urged members to nominate themselves or others for participation in association activities.

 i. Spring Conference: Lisa McDaniels reported over 100 attendees at the conference and over $5,000 in revenue. Conference materials would be posted as they became available. The 2010 Spring Conference will be at Kirkwood Community College on April 23.

 j. ACRL Government Relations Representative: James O'Gorman reported on matters of concern to members relating to the Federal legislature.

k. ACRL Chapters Council Representative: Kathy Parsons reported on her activities, and urged members to take advantage of opportunities at national conferences.

VI. Other Business

a. Electronic Voting: Cloyd reported that the matter is under discussion and that revisions to the bylaws will be drafted and presented to members at the Fall Business Meeting.

b. Membership & Directory Committee merger: Cloyd reported that the Executive Board had been discussing whether and how to merge committees whose duties were changing, but that nothing was imminent.

c. Nancy Kraft announced that the University of Iowa had received a grant for preservation. She also reported that both the University of Iowa and Iowa State University had book dryers that could be used for collections of fewer than 200 volumes.

VII. Announcements:

Ed Goedeken announced the upcoming Iowa OCLC Users Group meeting on May 15th at Ames.

VIII. Next meeting, October 22, 2009, at the ILA Annual Conference.
