This is the first year for this joint committee with the Iowa Association of School Librarians (IASL). Val Ehlers, our IASL Co-Chair, and our committee members have hit the ground running.

Our charge: Support K-12 library programs, ensure collaboration to provide strong K-16 information literacy efforts throughout the state, and conduct assessment and advocacy. Source: ILA/ACRL by-laws, proposed Oct. 2015

The College Readiness Committee currently has three working sub-groups: Information Literacy Assessment, lead by Katie Hassman; Mapping Iowa Libraries, lead by Ericka Raber; and Research and Joint Professional Development, lead by Jean Donham.

The IL Assessment group is working on a research experience survey for high school students. The mapping group is working on an interactive map of data gathered from BEDS and the Iowa School Library Study. The PD group has developed a bibliography called College Readiness in Information Literacy in the Professional and Scholarly Literature, including K-16 collaborative programs, and a needs assessment for students preparing for college-level work. The group is also planning to offer an Iowa License Renewal Unit course for K12 teachers called Inquiry in the Iowa Core this summer via The University of Iowa.
