The ILA-ACRL Awards Committee is pleased to announce this year's winner of the ILA-ACRL Fall Conference Scholarship, Kate Thompson. Kate is a University of Alabama MLIS student and University of Iowa alum. Kate's award will be announced at the Thursday morning opening session of the ILA conference. Please welcome Kate to the conference and introduce yourself!

The scholarship covers ILA conference registration and travel/related expenses for one recipient who is a library school student, academic library paraprofessional, or new librarian. The recipient is selected based on an essay focused on how the conference will support professional goals.

In her submission essay, Kate indicated: "While speaking with many librarians in our state I've picked up a challenging truth - a library degree is only as important as the experiences you accrue and the connections you make with colleagues in the field." As a former  events manager, she is interested in how libraries do branding and social networking as well as exploring how librarians help their libraries fit within institutional contexts. She would like to explore future internship opportunities with Iowa libraries as part of her professional development.

Congratulations, Kate!
