The Iowa Chapter of ACRL is coordinating another free webinar from ACRL on “Sparking Innovation in your Library: Lessons from startup, R&D, and venture capital”. Academic libraries are experiencing tremendous change. Advances in publishing, technology, pedagogy, and research are shifting roles across campuses. Librarians are expected to address emerging needs, requiring entrepreneurial thinking in order to deliver these new services.  This live, interactive webcast will explore ideas from startups, R&D labs, venture capital firms and other innovative organizations. Learn how you can apply the mindsets, toolsets, and cultural qualities to your library. More information about this session can be found at: http://www.ala.org/acrl/sparkinginnovation.

Iowa ACRL is coordinating this event, which will be held at Grand View University in the Centrum Room of the Krumm Building (parking map) from 1:00 to 2:30pm on Thursday, June 13th. The Krumm Building is just a stone’s throw from the library, so if you want to find it on a map, just Google the library’s address: 1350 Morton Ave., Des Moines. There will be a pre-event discussion starting at 12:30, followed by a post-event discussion until 3:00. If you wish to participate in the discussion, please bring ideas of:

  • How has your library been innovative over the past year?
  • What innovation practices have you seen at other libraries that you would like to duplicate?
  • What are you hoping to change in your library?
  • What is a problem or roadblock at your library that you would like to make progress and innovate some ideas around?

The live session is only available at the Grand View site, but if you are unable to attend, the recording will be made available to Iowa ACRL members afterwards.

Please RSVP to Dan Chibnall ([email protected]) by Wednesday, June 12th.
